WotGC’s M11 Prerelease Event and More…

Magic 2011 Core Set

Thanks loads to everyone who turned up at our Magic 2011 prerelease event on the 9th of July. It was great to see so many familiar faces as well as a host of new ones at the event. 20 people all told turned up for the two sealed events at an alternate location overlooking the Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa.

Thanks to Tammy for arranging the alternate location. If any one of you has similar suggestions for a short/long term location do make sure to get in touch as we’re keen on having multiple locations just in case.

Those of you that were there may have been aware of a journalist from The National newspaper interviewing us. Well, the results are in and we’ve been published again! The article by Matt Kwong can be read here if you’re interested and has some humorous quotes from yours truly and some of our players.

We’ll be having our Release Event sometime on the weekend of the 30th July. Keep tuned for more details and an updated event list once everything rolls in.

The Summer of Multiplayer is ongoing so if any of you have been on holiday or missed our previous announcements, we are regularly meeting up for casual multiplayer madness. I’ve still got an extra set of Archenemy decks in case you never got around to getting a set. Hit me up if you would like it. Whether it is EDH, Planechase, Archenemy, Emperor or just a bit of the regular Free-For-All, get in touch on the forum and we’ll make sure to have enough players to satiate your desires of planar domination.

MTG Events Suspended

Deal All,

Due to a request submitted by the Dubai authorities, we are hereby suspending all public MTG events until further notice.

We will be working both with the Rydges Plaza and the Dubai authorities to solve the issue as quickly as possible.

The Rydges Plaza is not to be used for any kind of Magic:The Gathering events until the issue is resolved. Please do NOT go to the Rydges Plaza for card games until the issue is resolved.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

22/06 Update:

We have made the required submissions to the Department of Tourism, whom we met with last week along with our legal advisor and the hotel’s PRO.
The meeting went well but we are awaiting their answer, which we should hopefully have this week.

Best Regards,

the admins

April Fool’s Gold

First off, I’d like to congratulate Zak Espera for winning the Fly-To-Victory Manila tournament last weekend. First prize means that he gets to go to Manila for the Grand Prix in June to represent our community. I believe a few others are planning to go too to keep him company. I’d also like to thank everyone who showed up for the event. It was good to have so many players come together for some competitive fun and I’m glad things went the way they did.

For those that are interested, the final rankings were as follows:

Rank Name Points
1 Zak Espera -
2 Jude Gagan -
3 Mark Ocampo -
4 Glenn Caratao -
5 Hassan, Amir 10
6 Rune Joergensen 3
7 Marvin Sadsad 9
8 Mostafa Ibrahimi 7
9 Nadim Nehmé 6
10 Olivier Gheysen 6
11 Omar Sharif 6
12 Aaron Bartholomew 6
13 Jay-Ar Egalla 6
14 Jiri Vystejn 4
15 Christian (Tammy) Maniago 3
16 Saagar Laxman 0

I will be posting all the full decklists over the weekend for everyone to get an idea of how our metagame has evolved.

In the run up to Rise of the Eldrazi hitting the shelves, we will be holding the last few Zendikar/Worldwake drafts before triple ROE takes us over. We’ll also be having a few extended events and I’ll find a way of squeezing in at least one casual event in April. I’ll also be taking orders for the upcoming set and other accessories that you may all need.

The Rise of March…

As we March on into the year and resolve the issues that have been plaguing us thus far in 2010, I have good news to announce in this post. Our March order (including singles) topped $2,000 showing that some of us aren’t ashamed to spend a bit of cash on our cards and accessories ;-) . All the March orders have now been completed. The two separate batches are estimated to be delivered next week in time for our Fly-To-Victory Manila event. For those of you who had any doubts, you will be happy to know that I’ve made enough orders to support the two scheduled drafts (with a potential third) as well as all the prize pools until the ROE release. Prizes from events run last weekend and this weekend will be delivered on arrival of the product.

Other important things to keep you in touch with is that WotGC hasn’t given up on getting product through proper channels but are content to keep things running until a resolution is reached. I will provide you with more information soon regarding how the Rise of Eldrazi pre-release and release events next month will be held. Keep you eyes peeled here for more information.

I will be opening up the orders section to new orders and pre-orders for ROE. There will potentially be a small order between now and the ROE release if enough non-ROE product is required. This is most likely due to the release of Duel Decks: Phyrexia vs. The Coalition being released this Friday. If you haven’t had a look at the contents of this box set, please do as you’ll love the new artwork and new frame treatments that some oldskool cards will be getting. Foil Mythic Rare New Art Urza’s Rage? I’m in! Check out this forum page for more info. Remember that orders can also be for singles that I do not already have in stock.

The pre-registration system worked quite well last weekend but I’m striving to figure out how to make sure that it is smooth and easy to calculate numbers. Please do not assume an event has been cancelled based on the number of registrations in the forum. I also get registrations via phone or word of mouth and will make sure to inform you if an event goes from a sanctioned event into a casual unsanctioned event due to insufficient players. If you haven’t heard anything from me, everything will proceed as planned. Please RSVP for this weekend’s Standard event if you haven’t already on this page.

If anyone of you are not receiving the regular newsletter or are having issues with the website/forum please contact me over the phone and clue me into your issues.

I hope all of you have been preparing your Extended decks for April’s event. I will be updating the April calendar over the course of the week but I thought I’d mention that April 3rd and 10th will both be Extended events.
