After weeks and weeks of deliberating and trying to come to some form of an agreement with either our regional distributor and/or Wizards/Hasbro, WotGC has come to the following decision:
- WotGC will maintain an account with the regional distributor in order to have access to proper pre-releases and releases. Products for both types of events will be received in time to hold the events on their actual dates.
- Sales through the current distributor will be non-existent. Stock will be maintained for events that are being organized (drafts) and for prize pools.
- I, Nadim, will be taking regular orders via the specially set up forum for any extra product you wish to pre-order or generally purchase. These orders will be done in batches and all costs must be paid in full to receive the products as I will be going out on a limb here to ensure that we get enough product.
- Pre-registration for all events other than Thursdays is now a must by responding to the event posting. If the minimum requirement of players is not met, events will be cancelled within 36 hours notice via notification on this website.
- Any events without the required number of registered players will automatically become casual unsanctioned events. Players having pre-registered will receive notification of this change.
- Minimum required players to be pre-registered for events: 8 for regular Saturday events, 16 for large tournaments.
- Large tournament payouts will change. For an AED 150 entry, AED 1,500 will go to 1st place, AED 500 to 2nd place and AED 300 to 3rd & 4th places. These prize values will be provided as product prizes.
- The website is now the main point of contact. SMSes will not be used to remind people of events or event changes anymore.
- Amir will be setup as the Tournament Organizer from hereon in and will continue to run all Saturday events. This will create an additional location for M11 pre-release and release events and all future pre-releases and releases.
- Main events (Fly-To-Victory and Nationals) will be announced on the main homepage of this site 2 weeks prior to the event date.
- Extended events will now be a part of the schedule. First such date will be in April.
- Last, but not least, I, Nadim, will become the main contact for MTG events.

We are still encountering problems with our distributor to get Worldwake products shipped out, we apologise for the continuous disruption.
We will be holding the following Worldwake Release events this weekend:
- Thursday 11/02: WWK-WWK-WWK Draft @ The Rydges – 19:00
- Saturday 13/02: Standard Constructed @ The Rydges – 18:30
Participants of the Release events this weekend will receive TWO copies of the WWK release card (as long as stocks last).

Unfortunately due to logistics problems with our distributor (products have not arrived and won’t make it in time to Dubai) we have to postpone the WWK Release Event by one week.
The Friday 5/02 events are postponed to Friday 12/02!
The Release Booster Draft will still be held on Thursday 4/02.
It is a big blow as lots of you were thrilled at the coming week-end but we unfortunately have no control on the dates at which our distributor receives/ships MTG products.

Wow, just wow! Tournament players unite! The months ahead of us are rich of events that will shape the scene of the UAE MTG community, and for good. Not only do we get one main event per month, but prior to the release of Rize of the Eldrazi we will hold the new Fly-to-Victory events which will see some of our players fly to Lyon and Manila. Squished between those two Grand Prix is also the UAE Nationals! What would your calendar look like if you were to place first on these tournaments? Let’s have a look:
- Feb 04 – Release of Worldwake – get a brand new tshirt and lots of new cards. Win 2 booster boxes since you placed first on both sealed events.
- 3 weeks to prepare your skills in limited for Fly-to-Victory Lyon
- Feb 26 – Win Fly-to-Victory Lyon (Sealed event)
- 4 weeks to prepare and tune a standard deck to rock your ticket to Manila for one of the hottest GP of the year
- Mar 23 – Win Fly-to-Victory Manila, thanks to the preparation at regular FNMs
- (3 weeks break time)
- Apr 23 – new set, new cards – need to find the key to Rize of the Eldrazi limited at the prerelease and release events, GP Lyon is 2 weeks away! Get the much-needed 1800 rating to get a bye at the GP.
- May 08 – Rock GP Lyon with Pierre Nassif and Jiri. Qualify for Day 2 and place into the top64 prizes. (note to self: try to sleep before the GP, 8-9 rounds isnt easy). Meet Patrick Chapin and ask him what to play in the standard portion of the UAE Nationals.
- Argh! only 2 weeks to prepare for the UAE Nationals.
- May 28 – the big day has arrived, will YOU be the UAE champion and get an invitation to the 2010 World Championships?
- 2 weeks to prepare for GP Manila, fresh of your qualification for Worlds you have faith that you’ll crush all resistance at the GP. Beware of the Japanese players, they will all be there with new crazy techs! Hopefully the UAE Nats gave you a lot of experience with THE deck.
- Jun 11 – GP Manila! Who actually cares about the result? Lots of food and partying in Manila with Zak, JR, Glen & co! (still do day 2 – beating the Japanese menace on the way)
- one month to finally take a good rest – summer is upon us
- Jul 18 – Release of Magic 2011 – new cards and a new t-shirt to add to the now enormous collection. Enjoy the success!

Wakey-Wakey! (…or World-Wakey we should say)
A new Magic: The Gathering expansion awaits us this end of January! We will be celebrating the turn of a decade (2000s) as it should with brand new cards and brand new mechanics. Join us for these events and come get your share of the loot in tournaments boasting more prize support than ever!
We will have our pre-release events at the Rydges Plaza Hotel (location).
Here is the schedule of events:
- Friday 29/01/2010 – Pre-Release Sealed Deck starting @ 14:30
- Friday 29/01/2010 – Pre-Release Draft starting @ 19:00
- Saturday 30/01/2010 – Pre-Release Sealed Deck starting @ 14:30
- Saturday 30/01/2010 – Pre-Release Draft starting @ 19:00
- Thursday 04/02/2010 – Release Draft starting @ 19:15
- Friday 05/02/2010 – Release Sealed Deck starting @ 14:30
- Friday 05/02/2010 – Release Draft starting @ 19:00
Format: Swiss rounds – 4 for sealed deck, 3 (+finals if required) for draft.
Price: 120 AED for Sealed Deck, 65 AED for Draft.
Prizes for Pre-Release events: 4 boosters per participant (2 WWK + 2 Zen) divided amongst top players (eg: 64 booster for 16 players, 1st 30, 2nd 15, 3rd 7, 4th 7, 5th 3, 6th 2), T-Shirts for top 2 players, Pre-Release card for all.
Prizes for Release events: 2 boosters per participant (2 WWK) divided amongst top players, Release card for all.
Please note that although no pre-registration is required – registrations will close 5 min prior to the start of each event. Please be on time!
Drafts will all be a pick-and-keep instead of the usual re-draft – this change will minimize the time required to complete the draft event, make it easier to drop out as well as provide new players with a chance to keep the cards they are playing with instead of seeing them re-drafted at the end of the event.
There will be no event on Thursday 28/01 due to the coming pre-release weekend.
There will be no event on Saturday 06/02 due to the release weekend events.
Pre-Orders placed prior to Friday 22/01 will all be delivered on the release date – 05/02.
